Louise Kowalski

Louise joins OCULA from Brisbane, Australia, where she’s worked in independent optometry practices for over 10 years. After she and Matthew (link) had a driving holiday around NZ in 2016, they fell in love with NZ - it’s natural beauty and friendliness of locals - and always said they’d love to move here.

Louise first completed a Bachelor of Biotechnology Innovation at QUT in Brisbane in 2008, graduating with First Class Honours and a University Academic Medal.  Louise returned to university in 2012 and completed her Masters of Optometry at QUT in 2016, graduating with Distinction and a second University Academic Medal, along with several awards for clinical performance in her final year.  Louise has served on the Optometry Australia state board, and the Contact Lens Society of Australia state committee.

Specialising in myopia control, ortho-k and managing dry eyes, Louise knows first-hand how vision problems can affect your day-to-day life. Having suffered with dry eye, myopia and some binocular vision issues for many years herself,  Louise can recommend treatment options, based on both professional and personal experience. Louise has a particular interest in children’s vision and vision therapy.

Louise enjoys helping people every day - whether it’s helping a client to see and look their best with new glasses or contact lenses, or helping them with eye or vision problems. Her friends and colleagues describe her as calm, caring and hard-working. And a good baker.

Louise is a Senior Optometrist and can be seen in Wanaka
