OCULA giving a bit extra in 2022

BLIND LOW VISION NZ

In 2022, one of OCULA’s goals is to give a little extra help to the people who need the most.

And not just help – but get right into it and make sure we are involved.

Of course, we had to choose a cause that is close to our hearts…
We asked our team to give feedback on various causes in need of support and were elated with the unanimous response: support people with no, or limited sight. On a daily basis, we have seen in our clinics what an impact eyesight (or lack thereof) can have.

So, we have decided to collectively contribute to an organisation that goes above and beyond for those affected: Blind Low Vision NZ.

What is now known as Blind Low Vision NZ began in 1890 as the Jubilee Institute for the Blind to provide services to people who were blind or had low vision.
Back in the early days, the first formal service was a school and residence in Parnell, Auckland.  As the services developed, who also offered sheltered employment, workshops and residential programmes.

Every day, an average of six New Zealanders turn to Blind Low Vision NZ for support with sight loss.
It’s over a century later, and they now provide services and support that enables people who are blind, deafblind or have low vision, to be self-reliant and live the life they choose.
The volunteers at Blind Low Vision NZ are also in charge of two years of rigorous training for puppies before they become guide dogs.

So how will OCULA contribute and how can you help?

We’ve created a series of fundraising events – dedicated days each month - where we will donate part of our sales to the foundation.

On each of those days, we will donate the money raised with the sale of specified products to Blind Low Vision NZ. Each month’s product or service will be listed on our social media platforms in advance, and our teams will remind you in-store.

Keen to contribute on a different day, or in a different way? Just have a chat to our in-store teams and they will point you in the right direction.

In the words of Jana Stanfield: “You cannot do all the good that the world needs, but the world needs all the good that you can do”
We cannot wait to make a difference!
